Seurat

Georges Pierre Seurat, a pioneer of neo-impressionism, was born in 1859 in Paris and is primarily known for developing the technique of pointillism. Inspired by scientific studies on color and optics, Seurat applied theories of visual perception to create images from small dots of pure color that the viewer's eye would visually blend. Paul Signac, a friend and colleague, adopted and promoted this technique, which profoundly influenced modern art. Seurat and pointillism emerged from impressionism and, in turn, influenced several future movements, including cubism and fauvism.
