Suprematism, founded by Kazimir Malevich in 1915, is an artistic movement that focuses on pure geometric abstraction. This movement was born in response to the trends of the cubism and the futurism, seeking to transcend objective reality to achieve a spiritual expression through basic forms like circles, squares, and lines. Malevich believed that art should be freed from the constraints of the material world, proposing that the true essence of art lay in the supremacy of pure sensitivity.

Suprematism deeply influenced the development of the abstract art and the constructivism , highlighting the importance of structure and composition over figurative representation. Besides Malevich, two other representative painters of Suprematism are El Lissitzky and Aleksandr Rodchenko. El Lissitzky, known for his works that combine architecture and painting, expanded suprematist ideas through graphic design and propaganda. Rodchenko, on the other hand, adopted and adapted suprematist principles in his photographic and sculptural work, significantly contributing to constructivism.

Suprematism also left a lasting mark on later movements such as the minimalist art and the conceptual art , emphasizing the idea that less is more. The influence of suprematism can be seen in the work of artists such as Piet Mondrian and Vasili Kandinsky who also explored geometric abstraction. Suprematism redefined the relationship between art and perception, challenging artists and audiences to find meaning and beauty in the simplicity and purity of forms.
