"Paris Through the Window" (1913) by Marc Chagall is a perfect example of how the artist combines elements of orphic cubism with his own poetic symbolism. In this work, Chagall presents a view of Paris that goes beyond realism, creating a dreamlike atmosphere where elements of the city, such as the Eiffel Tower, intertwine with human and animal figures in a surreal arrangement. The painting is composed of vivid colors, where overlapping planes create the illusion of multiple perspectives. Chagall employs transparency and geometric shapes in a manner similar to the cubists, but introduces elements that evoke personal memories, such as the parachutist or the two-faced figure, symbolizing the duality between his life in Paris and his origins in Russia.

This work not only represents the Parisian landscape but also the fusion of two worlds: that of his childhood and his new life in France. The painting belongs to the surrealist movement, although it also shows influences of fauvism in its expressive use of color. The presence of the two-faced man suggests the tension between past and present, the real and the imagined, key characteristics in Chagall's works. With this painting, the Belarusian artist managed to transform a simple view from a window into a metaphor for an inner journey, uniquely merging the concrete with the abstract.
